Enlightened NE Lincolnshire

client image 1When North East Lincolnshire Council (NELC) was looking to source an environmentally friendly, energy saving street lighting system it turned to award winning Zodion Lighting for expert help and advice.

NELC is responsible for around 19,000 street lights. As Steve Redfearn, Highways Services Manager, responsible for the council's street lighting department, explained: "Zodion's Vizion central telemanagement system (which utilises wireless technology to monitor and control street lighting remotely) provided many of the key elements we were looking for. An agreement was reached to evaluate the system and over the past few months an initial 200 'Nodes' have been fitted in and around the streets of North East Lincolnshire by contractors, J McCann & co.

Steve added: "Vizion acts as a 'communications system' for monitoring, reporting and controlling street lighting over the internet. We are finding that the system is reliable and offers safety benefits, whereby inspectors don't have to patrol the streets on foot at night checking for faulty lights in the areas covered by the remote monitoring installation".

John Fox, managing director of Zodion said: "We were delighted that our product was selected for this trial by NELC. Experience has shown that customers want to be able to operate street lights in the most efficient way possible and keep streets well lit and safe. With soaring costs of electricity, reducing energy consumption is no longer an option but a necessity and makes good financial and environmental sense. The use of central management systems is a potential long term solution and NELC are wisely looking to adopt such techniques in order to make significant reductions in energy usage and consequently reduce CO2 emissions.

"We are confident that the trial will prove to an all round success and that the Council will go on to convert many more of the street lighting across NE Lincolnshire"

Calderdale Council Shows Vizion

client image 2A Sowerby Bridge-based lighting firm has worked with Calderdale Council to successfully trial a brand new technology aimed at maximising the environmental and cost efficiency of local authority street lighting.

Zodion Ltd has launched a new system, called Vizion, which has been piloted in conjunction with the council and allows engineers to effectively and precisely co-ordinate the management of street light usage based on prevailing conditions.

Using wireless technology, the process involves the installation of a Node to each lantern which gathers and conveys information to a Collector which is then subsequently transmitted to the Vizion system.

Zodion Managing Director John Fox commented: "This is a state-of-the-art solution that gives local authorities much greater control over their lighting needs and, as a result, reduces costs and harm to the environment. "

"Calderdale Council has seen quantifiable benefits by implementing Vizion and we are seeing a number of other local authorities showing a keen interest," added John.

Zodion specialises in the manufacture and supply of street lighting technology to local authorities and contractors.
